Everything Must Come to an end.
Friday 09-24-2010 7:44am CT
Well they say all good things come to an end. Well, we're here. Micky and the Motorcars were the next to last show. On a night that would say Goodbye to summer a full moon and a nice Breeze made for a Great South Austin night. The Midnight River Choir were good opening up after a brief shower that I thought might threaten the entire show. MRC sounded Great and it was good to see some close friends playing better than ever.  Micky and the Motorcars always sound good and brought their high energy to the Strait music stage around 8ish.  Motorcars are some good musicians and brought their A game to a good size crowd that enjoyed a brief cameo from Willie Braun from Reckless Kelly.  All in all a good last night of summer and on the eve of the last night of TMS. See ya next week for fowler!
Bunch of Heathens bout' to play
Monday 08-23-2010 11:42am CT
Can't wait for Wednesday. This is the show I've circled on my calendar all year. These guys blew me away the first time I heard em'.  The Band of Heathens have been voted best band in Austin several times and have already taped Austin City Limits.

Do yourself a favor...Come see the Band of Heathens they are by far one of the best bands on the TMS this year and can all sing their rears off.  If they're not one of the best bands you've seen on the TMS I'll personally give you your money back...wait you get in Free! See ya Wedesday.
Josh...on a HOT Wednesday night
Thursday 08-05-2010 1:36pm CT

On the Hottest night of the series so far. Josh Abbott proved why his stock is going up on the scene. Good Show Good crowd lots of sweat...Me in White pants...that was my night.  Rob Baird got it started at 6:30 per usual and considering you could see the heat coming off the Hills parking lot pavement I was surprised how many people were there early on but, that says something about Rob.

I had decided to go to the mall and get a white T-shirt just because I knew the heat would be brutal. Little did I know I would let the Hot sales girl at whatever high end mall place talk me into getting way back Miami vice too expensive Diesel jeans. It only took me about 5 minutes of grief to realize this would be a tough night of heckling but, I digress...  Josh the eternal Texas Tech Red Raider fan has his "Roadtrippin" act together and had a LARGE rather young crowd. Can I point out that allot of ladies were there..I'm just sayin'.  We're in to the last couple of months in the Series and they're still a blast for Chris Mosser and I to be apart of. I don't take it for granted how fortunate we are to get to stand up on a stage (with white pants) and put on a Texas Music show every Wednesday....Next week Sean McConnell....I'll Skip the White Pants...

Two Tons This Wednesday Night

Two Tonnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnsssssssssssssss!!!
Get ready to yell this Wednesday night. One of my favorite bands Two Tons of Steel. Let's combine Rockabilly with Elvis,Buddy Holly and Texas Flava and you get Two Tons of Steel.  They've held post and Greune Hall and Sold-Out Two Ton Tuesdays for years. I enjoy the energy and the fun these guys bring to stage. If you're ready to dance and enjoy yourself come out Wednesday at Hills.......Two Tonnnnnnnnnnnnns.

Last night was Blazing Hot at Hills Cafe but, all in all another Great evening. It's amazing how many people you can get into Hills and apparently with all the people the temperature goes up 10 degrees. Wade is such a nice guy almost shy but, when he hits the stage you realize why he's one of the Great songwriters in the buisness. Wade has a Great band! Speaking of the heat when it's that Hot at Hills (We looked at the Thermometer it was 99 on stage when we started) with NO breeze the band was literally dripping wet from sweat.  We didn't get Wade last year at the series so, it was good to get him on the roster this year. His BFF Randy Rogers also showed up and jumped on stage. I wish I could talk about all the fun we had backstage but, I'd probably get in trouble for writing about it.  Let's just say the Video with Randy Rogers and Mc Hammer is classic and I can't wait to see it on Youtube!!! See ya Next week for Two Tons of Steel.

Thank you Wade Bowen

Mosser put this on his Blog and I had to totally agree. We both bitched and threw a fit cause Wade wasn't going to play...He's playing!!!

Wade Bowen at Hill's!
Monday 07-19-2010 9:44pm CT
The Wade Bowen gig for TMS this year almost didn't happen.  There were other potential gigs he could take, so it looked bad for awhile.  So Raines and I cried and groveled and bitched and moaned and whined and whinnied and begged and pleaded and cried some more and rolled around on the ground and there was gnashing of teeth and rending of garments, and so Wade agreed to play, I think out of something somewhere between pity and disgust.  Our lack of self-esteem equals a badass show for you at Hill's this week!  Rodney Parker and 50 Peso Reward open at 6:30, and much like last week, if you're not in by then, you might be listening from the line outside.

In all seriousness, a note on the line:  it's real freakin' hot these days, and if you end up standing in that line, you're gonna be exposed to the elements, so wear a hat and some sunscreen, and bring some water with you.  Sure, you might have to chug it on the way in, but you'll be even more ready for cold beers at that point.  Austin summers can be unforgiving to the unprepared, so take care please.

Stoney Last night at Hills
Thursday 07-15-2010 10:05am CT

If you've wondered how people would react to Stoney Larue's live show considering he hasn't had an album out in a while. It only took till about 5:45 to see how much love that guy gets to figure it out. Stoney is one of my all time favorites simply because of his music but, his fans are incredibly loyal and follow him and show up early..even on a 99 degree day.  There was a line a mile long outside of Hills cafe to get in to see the Arsenals.  I got there early cause' Brandon Jenkins is both a nice guy and, a great songwriter.  Brandon as usual did a great job and cranked up the show at 6:30 with already an almost packed house.   I spent time on the road playing with Stoney's fiddle player Jeremy Watkins (Great guy and super friend) so, I was excited to see the guys and invited myself on the Stoney Bus (killer paint job) for some JaegerBomb shots.  Stoney played the part of bartender for all of us. Good Job on the shots Stoney. By the time Stoney hit the stage it was packed and the crowd was already at a fevered pitch. I loved the new tunes and Stoney hit us with almost 6 new tunes for the radio portion of the show. Mosser and I had a beer after we got off the air and both realized that Stoney still has major JUJU with his fans. They loved every tune!  Last night was the reason people call Austin the Live Music Capital of the World.  Great live music last night and a Great crowd....thanks to everyone that came out and participated with Chris and I on stage...Good Times.

Stoney Week
Tuesday 07-13-2010 9:03am CT
Well good news Stoney Larue and the Arsenals play Wednesday night at Hills Cafe.  Stoney always pulls a fun crowd plus I heard a ton of new material when they played in Belton acoustically a couple of weeks ago. I can't wait to hear his band plugged in and tearing up the Hills stage. Get there early Stoney's good buddy Brandon Jenkins will be opening up at 6:30.
Casey Donahew Has Blown UP
Friday 05-14-2010 8:51am CT

Alright get on the Bandwagon. If you haven't realized it The Casey Donahew has blown up. Last year when they were on TMS I was curious to see how many people would show up and was surprised. I had heard Casey is selling out this and that and pulling an amazing crowd but, I hadn't seen it and personally we here that everyday. Everybody tries to sell us on the fact that their band has made it to that next level and "Blown Up." I got a brief glimpse last year when the crowd was huge but Wednesday night was completely "off the charts!"  It was the biggest crowd we've had all season and we're hearing it could be the biggest crowd EVER and that's saying allot. It was also the youngest "Best Looking" crowd we've seen.  When you see a huge crowd that is relatively young, you have to step back and take stock in the fact that there is a new guard and this band is NOT up and coming. They have arrived. The Casey Donahew Band is the new Party!

CDB Tonight
Wednesday 05-12-2010 12:18pm CT
Casey Donahew Band tonight on the Strait music stage at Hills Cafe. If you haven't witnessed Casey's high energy show, do yourself a favor and get there early cause' it's going to be packed. Also Casey is shooting video of several of his live shows for an upcoming video so be prepared to be hired for a video shoot if you show up...ok you get paid at the end of the night.  BTW your pay is the ticketprice to get in.  Wear your Casey Donahew T-shirts but, they are asking you NOT to have any logos on your shirts.  Should be allot of fun. See you at HILLS!
